As the country is developing, the demand for human resources is increasing. Therefore, current education cannot continue to follow the old way of transmitting knowledge one-way, heavy on knowledge, but must pay attention to training, capacity development and thinking for students. Functional thinking is a type of thinking characterized by the perception of the process of specific and general correspondences between mathematical objects or between their properties. Therefore, the development of functional thinking in teaching mathematics is very necessary, helping students have a deeper awareness of mathematical objects and the relationship between them. From there, students can acquire knowledge and apply that knowledge to live. The article gives some measures to develop functional thinking for 8th grade students through the content of equations and inequalities.
